MacGowan 's struggles with the bottle, and in turn the band, added the needed danger that kept things fiery and hotheaded. Without him the Pogues turned rootsy and effortless to a fault.4/

Troubles with his rampant alcohol problem caused a deep rift within the band and it spread thorugh the members like wild fire. Several of them developed problems of their own and quickly moved to oust Shane from the band/5(18).

• Waiting for Herb is a very different album than the earlier Shane MacGowan -led Pogues albums. And when you're in the mood for their earlier sound, this isn't going to do it for you. But when you're in the mood for this sound, it'll do just nicely and i find myself in this mood just as often as the other.
